David Caldevilla, partner at de la Parte & Gilbert, P.A. presented the Judicial Review of Agency Action (Florida Administrative Appeals) section of the State & Federal Government & Administrative Practice (SFGAP) Certification Review Course. The two-day Florida Bar Advanced Level course was held April 8 & 9, 2010 at the Florida State University Conference Center in Tallahassee.

Porter Presides Over International Mood Court Competition

Nicolas Porter, shareholder at de la Parte & Gilbert, P.A. was a judge during the Preliminary Rounds of the International Environmental Moot Court Competition. The March 2010 competition was hosted by Stetson University College of Law. The competitors, whom hailed from nine different countries including India, Ireland, Ghana and Brazil, discussed Beaked Whales and Marine Seismic Surveys. The competition is in its fourteenth year and is the largest international environmental moot court competition in the world.

Patrick McNamara and Eric Nowak, attorneys at de la Parte & Gilbert, P.A., recently co-authored an article entitled Regulating Medical Identity Theft – Uncertainty for the Red Flags Rule. The article appeared in the Health Care Law Section of the February 2010 issue of HCBA Lawyer.

The article addresses FTC’s Red Flag Rules application to medical providers.  Implementation of the rule, which was already determined as non-applicable to lawyers, has been delayed again while debate continues.  The full article is reprinted here with the permission of the HCBA.

Edward de la Parte, Jr. Serves on Panel at UF Water Institute Symposium

Edward de la Parte, Jr., Managing Partner of de la Parte & Gilbert, P.A., will be a panelist on Environmental Flows and Levels – Perspectives on Success, at the 2nd UF Water Institute Symposium, to be held February 24-25, 2010 in Gainesville, Florida. The symposium will bring together a diverse group of scientists, engineers, academics, non-governmental organizations, policymakers, water managers, industry and utility representatives, lawyers, students and the public to address complex water issues from multiple perspectives.

Mr. de la Parte’s panel will address how environmental flows and levels are established and implemented in Florida as well as the efficacy of Florida’s systems for protecting and restoring water for the environment.

Merits of withdrawal permits for bottled water debated on local TV show

Ed de la Parte, managing partner of de la Parte & Gilbert, participates in debate. The issue was whether water withdrawal permits should be granted to allow private companies to withdraw water from the Florida Aquifer for the purpose of reselling bottled water.

The debate aired September 27, 2009 on Orlando’s WKMG Local 6 “Flashpoint” segment and was hosted by news anchor Lauren Rowe.  The panel also included Dick Batchelor of Dick Batchelor Management Group, Inc., and Peggy Cox of Orange Audubon Society.

Patrick J. MNamara Appointed to Executive Committee of Prevent Blindness Florida

Patrick J. McNamara, a partner with the Tampa law firm of de la Parte & Gilbert, P.A., has been appointed to the Executive Committee of Prevent Blindness Florida, a non-profit organization that promotes healthy vision through advocacy, education, screening and research.

Kristin Melton was selected to represent de la Parte & Gilbert, P.A. in the exclusive Tampa Connection class of 2009-2010. Tampa Connection’s program is for up and coming community leaders and helps create a networking platform for building personal and professional relationships while improving the Tampa Bay area.
