Attorneys Selected as Faculty for Environmental Permitting Summer School

Nicolas Q. PorterEdward P. de la Parte, Jr.de la Parte, Gilbert, McNamara & Caldevilla attorneys, Edward de la Parte and Nicolas Porter, were selected as faculty members for the Florida Chamber’s 38th Annual Environmental Permitting Summer School. The conference curriculum features the most advanced and current instruction available on Florida’s environmental, energy and growth management laws, rules and programs.

The conference took place on July 16-19, 2024 at the JW Marriott Beach Resort in Marco Island, Florida, and is produced by the Florida Environmental Network. The summer school is attended by more than 1300 attorneys, consultants, engineers, developers, landowners, government officials and others with an interest in Florida’s environmental issues.

Edward de la Parte and Nicolas Porter sat on panels that covered emerging challenges in meeting future water demands and regulatory challenges, and innovative approaches to addressing these issues.  The panels explored innovative water supply projects and policies that are emerging around Florida. They also provided insight into the regulatory, planning, and water supply development programs of Florida’s five water management districts, including a discussion of water resource development and water supply planning.

Nicolas Q. PorterNick joined the firm in 2003 after graduating with honors from Florida State University College of Law. Nick focuses his practice on environmental and administrative law issues, including complex environmental litigation throughout the state.

Donald C. P. Greiwe Don joined the firm in 2015 after graduating from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, cum laude. Don focuses on achieving justice for individuals and families who have been injured by the negligence or wrongful conduct of others and consumers who have been wrongfully treated by insurance companies or corporations. He also represents businesses in commercial disputes, ranging from breach of contract cases to partnership disputes and shareholder derivative claims.

David Caldevilla Zooms with the Florida Supreme Court

David Caldevilla, a Board Certified Appellate Specialist and partner at de la Parte & Gilbert, P.A., recently participated in the Florida Supreme Court’s historic debut of “Zoom” remote oral arguments on May 6, 2020. David recounts his preparation and participation for the hearing, with Issues on Appeal podcast host, Duane Daiker. The case involved a question certified as a matter of great public importance to the Florida Supreme Court concerning the amount of medical expenses payable under an motor vehicle insurance policy.

David Caldevilla Earns Spot in Top 100 Florida Super Lawyers

To add to his growing list of achievements, David Caldevilla has been awarded a spot in the 2019 Top 100 Florida Super Lawyers® list. Super Lawyers, part of Thomson Reuters, is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. David has earned the Super Lawyers recognition every year since 2008. This is the second time that David has earned the honor in the annual publication.

In addition, Edward de la ParteRichard Gilbert, and Patrick McNamara were awarded the designation of Florida Super Lawyers and Donald Greiwe made the list for the first time as a Rising Star.

de la Parte & Gilbert, P.A. was proud to sponsor John Flynn, a senior at Berkeley Preparatory School, at the Florida American Legion Boys State program which was held June 18-24, 2017 at Florida State University.

Boys State is a comprehensive one week leadership action program in state and local government. Attendees are well qualified, male high school juniors from all over the state of Florida. The program is designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure and political process of Florida’s government. Operated by students elected to various offices, the program includes legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, and recreational programs.

Ed de la Parte and Nick Porter Speak at Environmental Permitting Summer School

Edward de la Parte and Nicolas Porter were presenters at the 31st annual Environmental Permitting School held on July 18-21, 2017 at the Harbor Beach Marriott in Ft. Lauderdale.

The Florida Chamber Foundation’s Environmental Permitting School is produced by the Florida Environmental Network (FENI) and is attended by more than 850 attorneys, consultants, engineers, government officials, developers, and landowners. The program focuses on Florida’s environmental, energy and growth management laws, rules and programs.

Ed led a discussion regarding innovative water supply projects that are emerging around Florida, including the Central Florida Water Initiative, and the role of utilities and other significant water users now and into the future. He is a Board Certified State and Federal Government and Administrative Practice Lawyer and concentrates his practice in the areas of Water Law, Environmental Law, and Land Use.
